A two-month voyage around the Land Down Under was terminated following the death of an older woman who was stranded by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been walking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the group for a break. The ship sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the personnel discovered the passenger was not present.

An extensive rescue mission located her remains the subsequent day.

Officials are examining the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that travelers and crew on the vessel were informed that the remainder of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and prior engine troubles".

In a statement, he further stated that travelers would be provided a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Officials also published an revised statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Captain" banning any additional guests from entering the vessel.

The representative said that they would inspect the ship in the port city upon its arrival.

The daughter of the victim said that her family was "shocked and grieved that the vessel left the location after an planned tour without my parent".
