Former National Football League Player Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Plea in Murder Attempt Case

Former National Football League player Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to address an murder attempt accusation related to a gunfire that occurred in May, as his attorney entering a not guilty declaration on his behalf.

Jail logs in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was discharged on Tuesday early for his transfer to Florida. Brown, one of the most popular players in the National Football League, had relinquished extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was taken after being arrested in the city of Dubai.

Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an communication that he has already submitted a written innocent response to the murder attempt accusation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday early for a bail session, Eiglarsh said.

According to his arrest order, Brown is charged of taking a firearm from a security employee after a public figure match contest in May and shooting two bullets at a person he had confronted with before. The alleged target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed investigators that one shot touched his nape.

Eiglarsh said that Brown was merely defending himself from Nantambu.

“The measures he was forced to take were purely in self-protection against the claimed person’s hostile behavior. Brown was targeted that night and responded within his legal entitlement to protect himself,” Eiglarsh said.

Brown was not immediately detained because initially police did not recognize Nantambu as a affected party. It not until subsequently in May that Nantambu provided a full statement about the situation to officers and identified Brown as the perpetrator, the report says.

Based on his online posts, Brown had been residing in the city of Dubai for multiple months. In a post after the altercation, Brown claimed he was defending himself because he was “attacked by multiple individuals who sought to rob my possessions and inflict personal harm to me.”

A level two murder attempt accusation in the state of Florida carries a utmost 15-year prison penalty and up to a $10,000 penalty in the event of a guilty verdict.

Brown has faced several judicial challenges over the years. He previously had been charged of assault of a truck driver, several domestic violence accusations, failure to pay parental support and further occurrences.

During a 2021 contest with Tampa Bay against the New York Jets, Brown took off his uniform, equipment and accessories and left the stadium, causing his release by the franchise and practically halting his NFL career.
