Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
